AIRCRAFT: Curtiss P-40B Warhawk ARMAMENT: 2 x .50 Cal Machine Guns, 4 x .30 Cal Machine Guns HISTORY: The attack on Wheeler Field cought most of the P-40 and P-36 fighters of the 7th Fighter Command on the ground. Six pilots, however, managed to get their planes into the air. Overwhelmingly outnumbered, they scored the first American victories of the war, shooting down 12 enemy planes. MISSION: Accompany 2nd lieutenants George Welch and Ken Taylor over Ewa Marine Corps Air Station. Land at any friendly air base to be refueled and rearmed. (George Welch and Ken Taylor each shot down at least four enemy planes, and were among the first USAAF aces of the war.)
